Objective: to analyze the adoption and implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in emerging economies, identifying benefits and implementation challenges for business management. Method: a literature review was conducted using the historically recoverable documentary corpus and a traceability criterion. Results: the reviewed literature associates IFRS adoption with greater comparability, transparency and usefulness of financial information, while also identifying implementation costs, technical demands and institutional heterogeneity. Conclusions: IFRS adoption can strengthen financial reporting, but its outcomes depend on enforcement, professional capacity and organizational context; therefore, effects should not be generalized across emerging economies.
